Avatar on Tour - Galashiels

If it's Wednesday, it must be Galashiels... The Traverse team head west for one of the tour's bigger venues - the Volunteer Hall - where Mark's set has a chance to expand gloriously. There's enough room for all the scenic lightboxes, which glow right across the back of the hall. The seats are raked quite shallowly here, which also pulls Amy's window right into view. It's amazing how it looks different in every space, and gives a different audience perspective for the actors to work with. And it's not just a visual perspective - the audience are also reacting to different things. Like Euan's Tornadoes screaming overhead (how do they do that?). In Edinburgh, the jets passed almost without comment. But in Gala (familiar with sheep-chasing pilots and RAF exercises), they get one of the biggest responses of the night.
This time, there are a scary number of faces I know, including (scariest of all) a large contingent of the writer's mum's pals who've arrived in convoy from Hawick. Actor Patrick Hoffman nips across to the Salmon Inn for a quiet pint after the show and finds himself cornered in a post-show discussion...
